Two thousand and eleven was a big — dare we say huge — year for Vimeo. We launched a slew of new features; reached more people than ever; and, most importantly, scoped out a ton of awesome videos. We were right there with you all year long: watching, liking, sharing, and commenting, and not just because it’s our job to do so. Like you, we simply <3 <3 <3 videos.
In accordance with our yearly tradition, each staff member put together an album of favorites from 2011, and to that larger pool we applied some utterly unscientific methods to identify the 11 videos that were most loved by the Vimeo Staff. So if you’ve been saving up your attention span to watch only a handful of videos this year, these are our recommendations. Check them out in Couch Mode! And don’t forget that the real honors and accolades will be doled out next June during the 2012 Vimeo Festival + Awards.
From the entire Vimeo Staff: Happy New Year and happy watching!

“Rule #5: Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is nonexistent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery—celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: It’s not where you take things from—it’s where you take them to.”
